Growth in the U.K. slowed after 1800 with the Napoleonic Wars and the the economic hardships in the aftermath. Similarly the French lost millions in the wars (as well as some territory so that, again, the population only grew by 20%. The German population again grew by 50%, although there was a fair amount of emigration to America. Chinese growth is beginning to slow as the Colonial powers impose harsh and adverse economic conditions.
